Specialist wedding tour operator, Planet Weddings has seen more couples opting for a wedding abroad to short-haul destinations.

Mathilde Robert, managing director of Planet Weddings said: “Overseas weddings are popular as they can offer great value as well as the weather.

“We’ve also had lots of enquiries over the past few months for couples looking to just travel on their own to get married or if they have a family, just the couple and their children.

“In 2022 Rhodes was our most popular destination, followed by Cyprus. In 2023 we’ve added more venues and destinations offering more choice to meet growing demand.”

Planet Weddings offer weddings in Greece and her islands, Cyprus, Croatia, Portugal, Italy, Malta and Gozo, and France with a wide choice of venue locations to get married including beaches and lake side, cliff-tops, castles, villas, wineries and catamarans.

In Rhodes one of the most popular options is a ‘feet-in-the-sands’ wedding at the Lindian Jewel on Vlicha beach a few kms from Lindos where the ceremony is conducted on the sand and couples can reach the venue by boat and disembark right on the beach by the ceremony set up where guests await the couple’s arrival.

In Cyprus new for this year is the 5-star Coral Residences in the Coral Bay/Paphos area where couples can exchange their vows right on the beach with up to 150 seated guests and be guaranteed of luxurious service within a private and intimate setting.

Two of the most popular locations are the romantic Aphrodite Beach in Ayia Napa named after the Greek goddess of love and beauty, and the 5-star Annabelle in Paphos where couples get married on a fabulous private terrace overlooking the sea. The Annabelle with its new Anastasia Beach Club now also offers an elegant beach bar and dining experience.

A low key option in Cyprus is the Pernera Blue Waters beach weddings which can accommodate up to 40 guests on the seafront in the resort of Protaras. Following the ceremony couples and guests can have the wedding reception in a nearby taverna.

Prices for weddings in Crete and Rhodes start from £2,200 including paperwork, licence, admin fees in the UK and in resort, with a wedding co-ordinator in attendance during the ceremony, translation of documents and marriage certificate. Additional costs for extras such as flowers, reception, drinks, food and photography plus entertainment depend on what the couple wish to add.

Planet Weddings offer all types of weddings from civil to church weddings, same-sex weddings and renewal of vows, depending on the local laws in each country.
